Well, we made the dhow fishing trip. A dhow is a fishing boat. We had a great time. It would have been better if we could have gone out to where the big fish were, but the weather was too bad. I caught 3 little fish and Mike caught one. So we did catch something. I believe most of the fish caught that day could have been used for bait. LOL! This first picture is of Mike and sitting down waiting for everyone else to get on board. It took a while and there weren't that many of us. They were just slow. The next picture is of a boat just like ours. It is a wooden boat with an upper deck that is on the back half of the boat. It has cushions and stuff all around the
sides against the railing. It was really nice. Only the lower deck has a roof. The upper deck is totally open. Really nice the day we went because it was overcast and we had a great breeze. Not the best for fishing, but we had a good time. Not great for the people who got seasick. All but 3 women got sick and one man got sick. A few others didn't feel very well. They didn't get sick though. On this boat they feed you and everything. We had coffee, hot tea and fruit for a snack. We didn't eat lunch till 1:00 pm and we were
to leave at 10:00am. Everyone enjoyed the snack including the people who got sick later on. They shouldn't have eaten, but most of them never had been on a boat before. As you can see in this next picture there are stairs leading to the upper deck and you can see the tables behind that guy where the food is. (You may need to double click to get a larger picture.) You can also see strollers. We had 2 babies, 2 toddlers, two between about 6 and 11, and a couple in their early teens. They were all great! There is a speaker or two you might be able to see on the beam going across the boat near the stairs. We had great music. We had Christmas music. Bet you never thought we would hear that!
All of the songs that were Christmas songs and a few others were proclaiming Jesus and either these Arabs who ran the boat weren't Muslim or they didn't know what they were playing. It was very clear though. LOL! They also played some rock off and on. It was all in English. One of the songs was "Go Tell it on the Mountain". Anyway, we thought that was interesting. This picture now is one I took about 3/4 of length of the boat. People are helping themselves to the snacks from the tables and getting drinks. They fixed us bbq for lunch while we were heading out into the gulf. That would be the Persian Gulf. The benches on the sides back by the tables have long cushioned padding on them You can stretch out and lay on them if you want. The rest of the seating on the lower deck is those little chairs you can see on the left of the picture. We had a great time and this next picture is of Mike laying on the cushion that are Arabic style on the upper deck. They are very comfortable. We all had on sunglasses, because
of the glare not because of the sun. It was really overcast and we did get a little bit of rain a couple of times. We would have stayed up on the top deck most of the day, but we forgot our sunscreen and didn't put any on that morning either so we went back down to the shady lower deck. I got to meet more people of course and most of them spoke English. Some of the women don't speak English, but all of the men do. All of the kids behaved and had a good time. We got back around 4:00pm and we had a nice relaxing day. We got to see lots of tankers and other boats while we were out. The food was good and the sights of the skyline and coast were so pretty. I took more pictures and if you want to see them you will have to wait a few days and I will have them in a web album. Just use the link I have given you before and you will be able to get to them.
By the way, this morning here our temp was 59!!!! I was excited. The high was 68 and I had the house open. We had so much rain over the past few days that there is still mud out there so I opened the house. It is pretty cold in my house now that the sun is going down, so I am fixing to go close all of the windows. I know we didn't get much more than an inch of rain, but the dust is about gone because of it. The weather is cool and I am enjoying it all.
Have a great day!
Debbie
