Thanksgiving
Sorry this took so long, but we went fishing the day after we had our Thanksgiving meal. We did our meal and celebration on Friday not Thursday, because Mike was off on Friday. We got up and put things on to cook. I baked a cake on Thursday. Started off on Friday with putting together Mom's blueberry salad. Got it in the frig and then started on one thing after another. I baked fresh rolls from scratch without a bread maker, because mine broke. Michelle thanks for the recipes. We had a butterball turkey boneless breast. It was awesome. Praline sweet potatoes, green beans, because we couldn't get fried onions to do green bean casserole, mashed potatoes giblet gravy without the giblets. It was great! We also had Sparking peach juice or whatever it was called. It was probably my least favorite thing. It was ok but not as sweet peach as I thought it would be.
As you can see we decorated really well. We don't have many utensils or plates and stuff like that or serving dishes. We figure why, since it is just us. Oh well, poor Mike did dishes the entire time I cooked. We did ok though. It made us feel like it was a normal Thanksgiving meal being prepared. No extra people. It would have been nice if you guys would have surprised us with a visit. LOL! We got to visit with most of the kids and family either before Thanksgiving or after. We enjoyed all of our visits. Jon was kind of in a hurry because he was supposed to be over at Rachael's parents. He even took homemade dessert! Two peanutbutter pies. I must say they are a favorite of mine. Rachael went and had Thanksgiving dinner with Steve and Deborah and Nona and Papa in Bakersfield. She seemed to have a good time, because we were surprised when the day after Thanksgiving we were talking to Nonna on Skype and Rach walked in. A pleasant surprise it was!!! She even made thing to help with their cooking from what I hear. We talked to Jay and Danielle a little right before they were heading out to go to Danielle's family's, so most conversations were short but well appreciated. Visited with Mom and Pam for a little bit on Saturday and enjoyed that too. Even though we didn't get to be with everyone and in the craziness of our wonderful holidays it was the next best thing because we got to see everyone! I am guessing that by now just about everyone is back safe and sound in their own homes. Mike is back at work today and I have been cleaning the house and mainly doing laundry. We have also had rain off and on most of the day. Tomorrow is a sunny day they say and then the next day we may have a small chance for rain again. We will take whatever we can get. Things are good. The Cowboys won again. Maybe they have gotten a few things ironed out with using Romo for quarterback. Sure hope so. Just wish I could watch some of the games. I get to see the scores, so that is better than nothing. I also get to read about them on the computer too. Don't know what we would do without computers and the rest of modern technology!
Well, better get supper started. Mike will be home soon and I need to finish up the laundry. Things really take longer to dry when we have moisture in the air. Again, Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Weather
Sorry no pictures this time, but I just had to share. Last night we were sitting outside waiting on our new neighbors so we could go out to eat. We have a little park bench in our little common grass area so we sat there to wait. The wind was blowing a good 13 mph and the temp was about 77 already. That is normally the low of a morning. It was so nice to just sit out there and enjoy it. I know everyone in the states is having way cooler weather than that, but compared to what we normally have it was cool and just great! A little rain would be nice now, but I don't ever count on that.
Our new neighbors got in the earlier that morning at 2am. They had nothing and I didn't know it but Andry's wife was home with nothing even to eat. I knocked on their door around 4:00pm but I don't think she ever heard me knock. It is so hard to hear inside of our houses. She may have even been taking a nap. Anyway, Mike took Andry to work and brought him home and told him we could go out to eat. He went to check with his wife and she was more than ready. We took them to Chili's, so that afterward we could walk the mall and let them get some things they wanted. The first thing she wanted was new sheets. The ones they give you here are only one sheet for the bottom and nothing for the top and they are so thin you can see through them. I laughed and told Mike the first thing she would like to get if at all possible was new sheets. He laughed, because I said the same thing when I got there. So we got them some sheets a couple of towels and then headed for the grocery store. They got some essentials and we headed home. They didn't want to put us out, but they had nothing. We told them we understood what they were going through and didn't mind at all. Told them to take their time and we could go anywhere they would like. We told them if they would like that they could go with us shopping today. Mike then got a call saying he would have to work so we told them that as soon as Mike got home if they would like we would still take them, but they may opt to go on their own. We gave them the number for the driver we used to use and told them how to get him to know where we live. I also gave them the Marhaba book that has a map and tons of information about living here. That will give them a chance to go anywhere they would like either way and they can read about where they might like to go. I felt so bad that Tita had nothing to eat all day long yesterday till we took them to supper. I don't know if that is how you spell her name or not. They are in their late 20s and will have their first anniversary in December. They are both really sweet and easy to understand. They are from Indonesia, but since they got married they have lived in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
Well, I sure hope our weather holds out. The forecast I get is that it will be cool like this for about 2 more days so I am going to enjoy as best I can.
Well, I better get to work in case Mike does get home for lunch. I am going to go to the roof and enjoy some weather when I get through with the house work!

Desert Safari Tour # 1
Ok everyone bare with me. I am going to try to get as much in these next 4 posts as I can. To do this I have to start with the last pictures and go forward for it to come out right. We met for this trip in a grocery store parking lot. Our drivers met us there too. We loaded up and headed south for about an hour. One thing I didn't get a picture of that I wish I had was about 30 to 50 camels just roaming around in a field on the side of the road. No fences or anything. If a friend in the car got the picture I will try to send it later on. Anyway, they were really cool to see like that. We got to the entrance of this area and all had one last potty stop while the drivers let some air out of the tires. We then took off to the dunes. We were the lead vehicle and we had a blast. This was one of the first major dunes we went down. There are 3 Land Cruisers up on the top because were had already come down. We went sideways on this one and in my book sideways is lots of fun. I was sitting behind the driver and that was the side of the car that was on the edge of the cliff you were going down. EXCITING!!! We got out and took pictures of everyone as they came down. As each vehicle got down everyone got out of their Land Cruisers and took
pictures. When they were all down a couple of the drivers went part way up and back down the dune so we could have fun watching and they could also have some fun while we were filming. This next picture is when we first got to the inland sea I believe. We all had to take pictures and some people walked, up and down and taking pictures of each other and different groups and things like that. Since this was the fist thing we saw after our first dunes everyone had stuff to talk about and some who weren't quite ready for the next dunes got to have a bit of a break. My neighbor was one who had never done anything like this before. Her name is
Grace and she is in this next picture. She has never ridden a roller coaster or done anything quite like the sand dunes. Grace is from India. She and her husband both came and he knew what he was getting into because he has done things like this before, but not Grace. She was nervous and scared. She did good though. We gave them a ride home after we got back and she said once was enough for her. She said she had a good time though. She also said she loved the food. We are still at the inland sea. This next picture is of Tracy and Chuck. Small world they are from Lafayette. I also know some of their relatives. Interesting, huh? We enjoyed visiting. I thought that was a good background I got with them in the picture.
Someone else was actually taking a picture of them with their camera for them, but the sea, then the dunes, then more sea and then more dunes and more sea was just something I couldn't pass up.I hope you enjoy the next few posts from this trip. I tried to focus on the best pictures and include most of the attractions. I can' t really put videos on this because they would just come out ast still shots and they are of poorer quality. I did use one later on in the blog because you can see how the sand goes up around the bottom of the car and wheels in pictures like that. I wish we could have gotten a whole lot more pictures than we did but we got plenty. Like I said these are just the best ones in my opinion. Hope you enjoy the rest.

Desert Safari Tour # 2
This picture is of the inland sea. We are on top of a pretty high dune taking these pictures while they cool down the vehicles by putting the hoods up. I tried to get as much of this sea in the picture as I could. I think it is just beautiful. Right out there in the middle of the desert. There are a few other places you see a little water but not too many. Those are dunes across from us in the picture too. I can' t remember the name of the inland sea, but maybe I will remember by the time I see everyone next or before I finish this. While we were looking around at this sea we could see some more vehicles coming down some dunes way on
the other side and to the left of the inland sea. You may need to enlarge the picture by double clicking on it to be able to see it. I had my camera zoomed in all the way for this picture. There are lots and lots of people out there in the dunes. You can see the water at the bottem of the picture. I wish all of the colors of the water would show up on the pictures, but they won't. I have tried many different ways to make it show up but it never happens. This next picture is out my window. You can see part of the car door. We are on the edge of a cliff. These are what you go down, either straight down or you go sideways. It is a real thrill I can tell you that. All of us in our car
had a blast. As you can see my door is on the edge of this cliff of the dune and the dark part down at the bottom is packed hard sand. After that there are little weeds and more soft sand. This one wasn't quite as fun because we went straight down and you go fairly slow when you do that. It is exciting though. Really cool how they do it too. After this dune we are on our way to more water. In the next picture if you look straight down we are on a cliff again. We are not in the cars right now. We are taking a picture of Suadi Arabia. It is on the other side of the water. You can kind of see the different colors of the water in this picture. If I look straight down at the
shoreline while I take the picture you can see tracks in the water. It is shallow for a while. Looks like they have fun in the water in their SUVs, too. I know this seems like a lot of water, but it is where we stop the most. We tried to take a lot of pictures, but it is very hard while they are driving even with a video because it is so bumpy or you are trying to stay straight with the camera upright. It is very hard not to hold on for the most part and with a camera in your hand that is kind of hard. The best place for those pictures is in the front seat, but that is hard too. Looks like this is the end of this set of pictures. I sure hope I get this right on the blog because I have had to start this from the beginning twice now. Hope you are enjoying it all.

Desert Safari Tour # 3
This first picture here is of our drivers. We really enjoyed our drivers. They took pictures of everyone and entertained us very well with the dunes and everything. If you notice the hoods up on the vehicles. They let them cool down every chance they got. I believe these guys are all friends. The big one in the front there is our driver. He was the leader so we got to go first for every thing. Everyone else ate our dust so to speak. I think it made it a little more exciting because you never knew which way or how you were going up or down the dunes. We did do a couple of things different from everyone else too. This is the group of our drivers. We had
four Land Curisers and I believe 16 people. There were supposed to be 8 more but they didn't show. There loss. We all had a blast! The driver dressed in the white robe with the head dress was the boss or the owner. They all handed out business cards when we started out on the trip and his name was on the card, so he was at least the boss. This next picture is right where we parked our vehicles for lunch. They had the volley ball net, which no one used and beyond that you can see where we sat to eat. It was really nice because we had one really good breeze. You can see the water behind that. We had white caps, but not
too bad. People could swim if you wanted and we had a few that did. They said the water was nice. It was warm, but with the wind blowing they got cool when they got out. We had really nice weather. The temperature wasn't bad at all. I figure it was in the mid to high 80s since that is what it has been the last couple of days. In the next picture you can see the shoreline sort of and the water. It is just beautiful. The white caps started after we had been there for a while. This was when we first got there. Oh, the tables and chairs for us to use while we ate were plastic table and chairs just like the ones we have at home.
This last picture of this set is of some of the people checking out the water. Left to right is Julie, Knut taking a picture, Tracy and the last man I don't know. We all visited and had a great time. After we ate we all got pretty sleepy. It sure was nice though.Well, hope you enjoyed part 3 of this trip.

Desert Safari Tour # 4
This is where they bar-b-qued our lunch. Nice shade the guys sits in. The tent behind and to the left is where they put the food when it was done for us to go through a buffet line. The food was great. We had chicken breast, chicken k-bobs, weiners, chicken that is served on a skewers that are the consistancy of a meatloaf. It is good too. We also had humus, tabouli, Arabic bread, and an olive salad. They had soft drinks and water for us to have with lunch and coffee or tea after lunch and if you wanted shisha you could have it too. This next picture is of an open tent that was there. It has red cushions in it like the ones outside there. In the tent they
are stacked all along the sides of the tent so you can lay on them and have a snooze or just sit around and visit out of the wind. The tent to the right of it has supplies in it. The lower right edge is part of Mike's head. I didn't even notice his head, because I was concentrating on the tents so much. LOL! There is one more shaded area besides the one where we ate and they cooked for the drivers. We all intermingled even though they were over there. This next picture is one of our Land Cruisers coming down a dune. I apologize for the quality of the picture, but it is really a video clip. I wanted you to be able to see how much sand flies up while you are going up or down the dunes. This one one of the last dunes we got to do. We had a Land Cruiser get stuck on the one before.
We were already ready to move on and they called on the radio, so we ended up going back. When we got there everyone in that vehicle was out waiting to see if the driver could rock it out. He did right after we got there. While his people were getting back in, so we could leave. We did a donut or two and then headed out. We were almost back to the main road and asked if we could do one more and our driver let us ask the boss. We thought he said yes, because we all turned around and headed back into the dune area. We ended up going to see some camels they have to ride, if that is what you came out there for. We didn't, but we stopped and petted
them and had pictures taken by them. They really didn't want to cooperate, but they finally did. This last picture is dedicated to Jay, because he mentioned having one for a pet in the comment area of a previous blog. Well, Jay here is your little camel. She is a doozy. Not too too tall, but not too small either. LOL! She can't wait to come see you. Actually the two that were there were really pretty good. There were two of them there and neither of them spit or anything. Well, I hope everyone has enjoyed out desert tour blog.

Sunsets
We have some of the prettiest sunsets here in Doha. These were taken last Friday. We were stuck in traffic and it took about 15 minutes for this sun to be totally set. In the one picture you can see cars trying to merge in to lanes of traffic. In the other picture you can see some of the construction on the side of the road. That wall/fence is around a huge home or complex. We haven't been able to tell yet. This picture was taken right in front of the Hyatt Plaza. I had to hurry to get these two pictures. It was beautiful.
I have to say our weather has been great the last couple of days. Today our high was 86 degrees. The low this morning was 75. We have a nice 14 mph wind all day long. It is still blowing. When the sun was going down today I was outside and the whole compound was so nice and cool. 82 degrees felt awesome. I never dreamed I would ever say 82 felt cool. Hopefully if we are lucky we will have the nice temperatures just not quite as much wind while on our desert tour Saturday. I am not holding my breath or anything. Of course if we could get a little rain it would be great. I am dreaming there I think. I was thinking like a nice all night rain or an all day nice steady rain would be great. I know I am really dreaming about that!Mike called a little bit ago and is on his way home. It is midnight. He told me the other day it would be a miracle if he got home before midnight. He was right. LOL! He is hungry too. He will have to snack till he can have breakfast.
I hope you guys have a nice afternoon!

Brunch
Good evening everyone! I would normally have this done already, but I had to get a little house work done today. Today's pictures are from brunch at the Four Seasons Hotel. It one beautiful place and huge. This first picture is of one of the pool areas. I think there are actually five or six pool areas. They have different pools on different levels too. The landscape around each area is so emaculate. There are hot tubs at eash pool area too. There are three of those castle looking things across the back of the hotel. I am not sure what they use them for, but they are functional. The next picture is taken from the front of the hotel. It is the spa area. In the spa
area they have everything from messages, facials, beauty shop, manicures, pedicures, all types of things to beautify yourself and relax your bodies. They really go all out. You take a breezeway area to go from the spa area to the main part of the hotel. If you look out back from the breezeway you will see the many pool areas and the outside dining area. That is where we ate our brunch. The next
area is the front of the main part of the hotel. I can't remember how many floors there are in the hotel, but it is really nice. There are at least four restaurants in this hotel. The brunch is on Friday only. It is from 12:00 noon to 3:30pm. I know that is not the normal time for brunch, but apparently it is here. LOL! They have all kinds of foods, salads, veggies, breads, pizza, soups, meats, seafood, shawarmas, spring rolls, cheeses, lunch meats, and all kinds of desserts. They have so many things to eat you can't begin to eat it all or even try it all. Each type of food has its own room. The dessert room is the biggest and they tell you the desserts are their specialty. Fruits, cheesecakes, icecream, a
chocolate fountain and fruits to dip in it, just all kinds of stuff. Nuts, dried fruits and so many more things. I can't tell you what all they had because most of it I dont' know the names of and won't ever remember the names. We tried as much of everything we could in every area. Did I mention breads? They have all kinds of bread too. We really enjoyed ourselves. It was definitely worth it. I could have been there at noon and stayed till 3:30pm to
be able to work in trying more of the foods. This next picture shows you some of the different pool areas and the different levels of them. In the lower, left corner are people in a hot tub. It is just at the end of a pool that goes under the breezeway, where I was standing when I took the picture. It is a very inviting area. The whole place is very inviting.
I forgot to mention the area we ate in. It is the picture before this last one. The picture only shows part of the outdoor dining area. We didn't sit under that wooden shade area, but just on the other side of it. We had our own umbrella that they would move around if you got any sun on you at all. After we ate all of that food we left and went to the largest mall to walk around. We took in a movie there too and then left and went to another mall. It was a great day.
Well, it is 7:00pm here and I am starving! Need to go see what I want to fix myself now. It won't be anything like what we had at our brunch. Jay and Chris you would have loved to eat there. Jon, I think you could have handled eating the meats they had, but I think Michelle and Danielle would have eaten more of the other things too. Jay, the cheesecake was with all kinds of fruit on top and you would have loved it. The cake part of it was just like mine. It sure was fun to try things. I did have to pick out the raisins in a lot of things though. No problem either!
Have a good one ya'll!

Signs and the Asian Games tower.
Welcome to our wonderful blog. We are both doing good. Mike is at a school in Abu Dhabi. We have been taking quite a few pictures lately. This first picture was taken while we were out looking for the camel race track. The road sign on the top is telling us there will be a curve ahead. The lower sign is a do not pass sign. The left car is red and the right on is black. Apparently is red means no. I always thought it meant stop. I guess
that it is the same thing here. The next picture is of a sign on a gas pump at the gas station. Mike just loves signs here. They are interesting to figure out and they usually use different spellings like the one in this picture. The sign should say "Turn off car engine" instead of "Turn of car ingen" I hope you noticed. LOL! Who knows how they spelled it in Arabic?
This next sign is just another one of the curve
ahead and the do not pass sign. See what happens when you are trying to get a really good close up of something? I got myself taking the picture in the outside mirror. Oh that is also something different here. In the states the right outside mirror has that things are closer than they seem. Here the left one says that and is that way. The right one is normal, no close up stuff or anything like that. LOL! Mike says it really messes him up when backing up and looking from one side to the other.
This next picture is of the tower from our roof at the actual normal distance. Not far from our house at all. Anyway, it is just about through. If you notice there are clouds in the background. Miracles do happen. We had the clouds for about a full week. Each day they got a little puffier and then we actually had a little rain one day. It lasted just a few minutes and that was it. Almost got the pavement totally wet. LOL! We are supposedly in the rainy season here now. We have had clouds off and on for a couple of weeks now. Most of the time they are the little wispy ones.
The next picture is mainly of the bottom of the tower. That beautiful green grass is a type of astro turf. You can see it folded back by the sidewalk at the bottom of the picture. It is pretty though. We were in traffic at a stand still so I took this picture. At the top of this tower will be the flame for the Asian Games. It really will look like an actual torch. I will make sure I get a picture of it when they light it at the start of the games. We are going to have so much traffic when the games start. Traffic is bad enough now with them redoing the roads. By the way the road we are on taking this picture from is right the road this tower is on and is the main road that is in front of our addition. In case you want to know the name of it is Al Waab. All roads start with Al. There are also stadiums of one type or another on all sides of this tower. We were on our way to the grocery store that is right next to this sports site. It is just a little ways down this road. The next picture is another one of this tower. I don't know if you guys know this, but on most of the pictures you can double click them and they will open up enlarged. Sometimes they won't do it, but most do. We discovered this looking at Michelle's blog. Well this is about all I have for today. These pictures have driven me crazy today. I still have one more here at the end, but it is a duplicate. Don't ask me how that actually happened. I know I must have put it in twice but sure didn't think I had when I started out. Oh well...
I will add more tomorrow maybe. I am trying hard to catch up. We are supposed to go on a desert on a tour Saturday. Mike and I are both getting to go. The SSA is actually letting our spouses go. Nice! We are going to the inland sea, the dunes and I think the beach or something. I have forgotten. Our vehicles are supposed to be airconditioned, so that will be nice. We eat lunch in a tent in the desert. This is all south of Doha. I am supposed to be able to take some really awesome pictures while we are out there. I can't wait.
Ya'll have a great day and enjoy that cooler weather ya'll have been having. Rain too if you are getting any. It is still in or near the 100s here.

Camels and the country side
Good morning everyone!!! This morning it was 75 degrees when I woke up. That is something to celebrate. Although I was told it is hotter this year at this time than it was last year.Anyway, this first picture was taken last week when we were looking for where the camel races are held. They are near a real small town about half way across the country. It took us about an hour or maybe a little longer to get there. We went on the main roads on the way over there and then went on the back country roads on the way back. We never actually got to see the race track because it is in the center of a tent city and there are camels all around like these in the first picture. One camel got loose so a man who had another camel were chasing the other one on the side of the road. They say during racing season this tent city just pops up and people live there with their camels till the racing season is over in March or April. I sure hope we get to go to a race at least once this year. The races are always are on a Thursday. They start at 4:00pm and last till I think they said around 7:30pm.
On the way over we noticed a sign that was a road that went right behind our addition and took that one back just to see where it would come out. It took a little longer but there were no cars on the road hardly at all. It was real easy to get to and it did go right back to where we thought it would.

This next picture is of some camels in a field on one of those back roads. They travel around just like cows. You know cows go just about the same places at the same time of the day. These were traveling together to get somewhere. We couldn't see anywhere that would be special for them to go, but they were all in a line going the same way. The fences they have to keep them in were kind of like deer fences only the hole in the fence was a little bit bigger of an area. Most of the gates leading into the those fields were open. Nothing like a cattle guard or anything like that either to keep them. We never did figure out why they didn't get out. Wish there had been someone to ask why the gates were open. The scrub trees or whatever they are called are not very big as you can see. Just dirt/sand and those little trees. If that is what you want to call them. If you want to see these pictures a little larger you might be able to double click on them and get them to come out larger. Sometimes that works and sometimes it doesn't.
Anyway, that was a fun trip out in the country.
I'll probably have another update done tomorrow too. I have a few more pictures I want to show you.
I just got back from another SSA breakfast. It was nice. I need to see if Mike wants to go on a dessert trip this weekend. It will be an all day trip. We meet up and then leave in 4 wheel drive vehicles and go to the dunes, the inland sea, and I think a beach. Hopefully Mike will be able to come. I think it will be so much fun. Otherwise I would like to go on the 1/2 day trip. It is during the week when most husbands are working. They did this trip last year and said it was loads of fun. We had a good time visiting at the SSA breakfast. We are all getting to know each other a little more. We still all wear name tags though. We probably always will because there is always someone new who has moved in. From what I hear there will be more after the first of the year too. Seems like that is the way it always goes.
Hope you enjoy the pictures.
